Advantages of Keyword
Indexing
Keyword indexing is merely
a list of all the words in a deposition or court transcript, showing the
page and line number where each word can be found. Common words,
such as "the," are excluded from this list.
Keyword
Indexing Options
As discussed in the last
issue, a computerized ASCII file of a transcript can be invaluable.
There are times, however, when relying on hard copy is unavoidable.
A keyword index can be a very useful tool for quickly referencing previous
testimony when spontaneously cross-examining a witness on the stand, for
instance.
A little known indexing option
is cross-keyword indexing of multiple transcripts. This is a single
index of words created from several depositions in the same case.
Most court reporting index software programs can index multiple transcripts,
so ask your reporter if he or she can provide you with this service so
you can see how you could use this tool to your advantage.
As a courtesy, Michelle provides
a complimentary individual keyword index with every transcript copy. |
